So many people ask, 'why do I need an appraisal?'
The simple answer is, you don't, unless you plan to have your collection properly insured or evaluated in the event of donating your collection, leaving it in a will, or a divorce settlement. But there are other reasons as well.

Some people just like to know what their collections are worth and if they got a 'great deal' when they bought it at a flea market. In some instances, for example a death of celebrity, signed pieces or used items attached to that celebrity, significantly increase in value after their passing. Think Babe Ruth signed ball - you know he is never going to sign another piece therefore its rarity (and value) increases.
Sometimes, you just want to learn about Grandma's vintage plate collection or that pocket watch that you inherited after your great-uncle passed away.
